Miss Shirley's Cafe was happy to present the “Eddie Dopkin First Course Award, Honoring Entrepreneurship in Hospitality” Scholarship for the 7th year, at the RAM Annual Awards Gala in April!
This year, the $5,000 scholarship, presented by Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation on behalf of Miss Shirley's Cafe, was awarded to Morgan State University student, John James, who aspires to work in the hospitality industry.

MISS SHIRLEY’S CAFE DONATES CHILDREN’S ALLERGY AWARENESS BOOKS TO ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
In celebration of 10 years of support from the Annapolis community and to raise awareness and educate students on the severity of food allergies.
As a local, family-friendly restaurant, Miss Shirley’s Cafe takes food allergies seriously, and has become a staple in the Annapolis community for many with food allergies over the last 10 years in business. In fact, this month we are celebrating the 10 Year Anniversary of Miss Shirley’s Cafe Annapolis, and we know we could not have reached this tremendous milestone without the continuous support of our loyal guests! Therefore, the restaurant’s recent goal is to raise awareness and educate students on the severity of food allergies, especially in May during Food Allergy Education & Awareness Month and in October for the Teal Pumpkin Project every year.
That is why the managing members of Miss Shirley’s Cafe, both former elementary school teachers, who have a daughter with life-threatening food allergies, decided to donate the book, Austin Goes to a Birthday Party, written by Erin Mandras to 87 Anne Arundel County Public Elementary Schools. “We value education and advocacy about a topic so near and dear to our hearts in schools,” says Mrs. Dopkin.
This month, we are celebrating the 10 Year Anniversary of Miss Shirley's Cafe, Annapolis, and we know we could not have reached this tremendous milestone without the continuous support of our loyal guests!

Well, did you know that our dry-aged black angus beef is also local? Roseda Farm, based in Monkton, Maryland, has been supplying the beef used in Miss Shirley’s Signature recipes for close to eight years!
Similar to Miss Shirley’s Cafe, Roseda is a family owned and operated business. Founded in 1996, owner Ed Burchell has kept the focus of Roseda Farm on the production of excellent beef, without added hormones or antibiotics. With summer coming to a close and schools back in session soon, it’s no surprise that August pays homage to a lunch-box favorite – Sandwiches! Though people have been combining meat and bread for centuries, the sandwich as we know it was popularized in 1762 by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, a small town in southeast England.
According to food lore, the Earl had a substantial gambling problem and found himself at the card table for 24 hours straight one evening! Not wanting to leave the table, he asked the cooks to bring something he could eat with one hand, as not to interrupt his game. The London club he was playing at provided beef and cheese between two slices of loaf bread. Men at the club started to follow suit, stating, “I’ll have the same as Sandwich.” This convenience food soon became popular in London society circles and permanently took on the Earl’s name!

This Spring, our culinary team have kicked it up a notch with some savory & sweet starters that are sure to Wake Up Your Taste Buds! Spice things up with a few of Doppy’s Deviled Doppers. This hot new starter consists of 3 Roasted Jalapeños stuffed with Deviled Egg Mix, encrusted with seasoned panko breading and fried, garnished with an Avocado Lime Cream.

On November 21, 2013, Miss Shirley’s Food Truck had the opportunity to take a trip to Monarch Academy and share our knowledge of restaurant operations with a few of Monarch’s Kindergarten classes. As a part of the school’s project-based learning curriculum, the Kindergarteners were completing a unit on Restaurants, and we were able to give them a first-hand look at how our food truck operates.
